WELCOME ADDRESS
by Prof. Kyriazis Pitilakis, Chairman of 16ECEE
On behalf of the European Association of Earthquake Engineering, the Hellenic Society of the European Association for Earthquake Engineering and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, it is my great pleasure and honor to welcome you to the 16th European Conference on Earthquake Engineering (16ECEE), organized this year here in Thessaloniki, Greece, in June 18-21, 2018.
In light of the previous successful conferences, we have committed ourselves to deliver a well-tailored and focused event of the highest scientific and organization standards, in a vibrant and friendly city renowned for its beauty, its warm hospitality, and history spanning over 2300 years.
ORGANISERS
The European Association for Earthquake Engineering was founded on October 1, 1964 in Skopje. 16 European Conferences, including Thessaloniki, were organized by EAEE. The objectives of EAEE is to promote regional cooperation among scientists and engineers, and to advance the research front in the field of earthquake engineering.
The Hellenic Association for Earthquake Engineering was established in 2002 as the National Member of the International Association of Earthquake Engineering (I.A.E.E.) which is based in Tokyo, and of the European Association for Earthquake Engineering (E.A.E.E.) being affiliated with the Technical Chamber of Greece. The HAEE currently counts more than 300 members.
The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) is the largest university in Greece. It was founded in 1925, during the first Hellenic Republic and the initiative taken by the government of Alexandros Papanastasiou, thus becoming the second university in Greece. The main campus is located in the heart of the city center, and covers an area of about 33.4 hectares. It comprises 10 faculties which consist of 40 schools and 1 single-School faculty.
